मेरा उद्यम ऐसा है कि फुरसत मुझे मिलती नहीं, फ्री कभी मैं होता नहीं. कभी क्लाइंट की खुशी के लिए पानी भरता हूँ, कभी फॉरेन कोलाबोरेशन में लगता हूँ. जब कुछ नहीं होता तो करीब 100 ऐसे लोगों से जूझता हूँ जिनका मैं नियोक्ता हूँ. इसके बाद जो समय बचता है, वह परिवार का है. इन सबमे से थोड़ा थोड़ा समय काटकर उस समाज को देने का प्रतिबद्धता भरा शौक भी है जिसका किसी न किसी रुप में स्वयं को ऋणी समझता हूँ.
किसान की खेती तक में हज्जाम का अपना कठ्ठासी होता है छह धूर, पंडिज्जी का अगउं होता है, भिक्षु-भिखार का हिस्सा होता है, और तो और चिरई-चुरुंग का भी हक होता है. यही भाव मुझे एक-दो महीने में एक बार मिलेनियम सिटी से पूर्वांचल के अपने गांव खींचकर ले जाता है. अपनी जड़ तक पहुँचकर उस जड़ की मजबूती और फुनगी की उस पर निर्भरता का भान होता है. कुछ समय हो चला था वह फील लिए हुए. लंगोटिया यार बिट्टू के पीछे कई दिन पड़ा रहा कि गांव चलो पर उसके पास रेडिमेड बहाना रहता; “खटनी बा.” दूसरा संघतिया खोजने में भी असफल रहा तो एकला चलो का फैसला करते हुए वृहस्पतिवार की सुबह निकल ही पड़ा और शाम तक कानपुर, लखनऊ और गोरखपुर को नापते हुए घर पहुँच गया. पूरा गांव मुझे देखकर खुश हुआ. अम्मा और पापा की ख़ुशी का तो ठिकाना ही नही था.
अगला दिन हँसते खेलते बीत गया. रात को पता चला कि पापा का मोतियाबिंद बहुत परेशान कर रहा है. सुबह ही गोरखपुर डॉक्टर के पास जाने का फैसला हुआ. सुबह पापा के साथ मैं निकला, साथ चाचा,मेरा छोटा भाई और अन्य चार-पाँच हो लिए. आप इसमे गाँव का अपनापन देख सकते हैं. दो घंटे की गोरखपुर की ड्राइव खाते-पीते व पान-गुटखा चभुलाते हुए चार घंटे में पूरी हुई.
डॉक्टर से एक मित्र पहले ही समय ले चुके थे. पूर्वांचल में लोग नौकरशाह और नेता को छोड़िए, डॉक्टर और शिक्षक तक के पास जाते बाद में हैं, पैरवी पहले पहुँचा देते हैं. लेकिन वहाँ इक्का दुक्का को छोड़कर कमोबेश प्राकृतिक न्याय ही होता है क्योंकि सिफारिश तो लगभग सबकी ही हुई होती है. बहरहाल, डॉक्टर साहब ने बाबूजी की आँख देखी. उन्होने ऑपरेशन की सलाह दी और शुल्क बताया एक लाख दस हजार रुपये. अस्पताल की रेट लिस्ट लचीली होती है और कई बार रोगी का अमला फमला देखकर भी उसे बढ़ा दिया जाता है.
मैने ऑपरेशन कराने का फैसला कर लिया. बगल में खड़ा भाई और चाचा भड़क गये;”एक लाख दस हजार में मोतियाबिंद के ऑपरेशन! एतना में तs केहु के आँख निकलवा के लगा दिहल जाई”. सबने समर्थन किया लेकिन मैं अपने फैसले पर कायम था ताकि ऑपरेशन कराकर जल्दी गुड़गांव लौट सकूँ. तभी पापा बोले; “पइसा जियान ना कईल जाई, ऑपरेशन तहरा सार के अस्पताल में पटना में होई.” अब मुझे भी हथियार डालना पड़ा.
हमलोग गाँव की तरफ लौटने लगे. पापा गंभीर थे. सब कुछ जानते हुए भी मैने पूछा; “कौनो बात बा का पापा.” पापा फिर भी नहीं बोले. छोटे भाई के बहुत खोदने पर पापा बोले;”पडरौना पहुँचके ट्रैक्टर किनाई.” ७-८ लाख का ट्रैक्टर खरीदने की बात उन्होने ऐसे कही जैसे लइका सब का ५-७ रुपये का फोकना हो. मेरे घराने में पहले से दर्जन भर से अधिक ट्रैक्टर हैं, जरुरत मुश्किल से चार की है. पूरे गाँव में ३० हैं, ६-८ से भी काम चल जाता. पापा ने ऐसे किसी लॉजिक को आने से पहले ही खत्म कर दिया; “ट्रैक्टर हमारा दुआर पर खड़ा रही, बस”. ट्रैक्टर खरीदने का सिद्धांत रुप में फैसला हो गया. लेकिन पडरौना की जिस एजेंसी से ट्रैक्टर खरीदना था, वह छह बजे ही बंद हो जाता है और हम वहाँ आठ बजे के पहले पहुँचने वाले नहीं थे. छोटे भाई और चाचा के पास हर तरह का जोगारमेन्ट हमेशा तैयार रहता है. उन्होंने तुरंत एजेन्सी मालिक को फोन करके पूरी बात बतायी और साढ़े आठ बजे एजेंसी पर आने को कहा. एजेंसी मालिक बोला;”बस रउआ खातिर आवत बानी.” हालांकि ऐसी किसी कॉल पर वह रात बारह बजे भी आ जाता और वहाँ भी यही डायलॉग मारता.
ट्रैक्टर खरीदने की औपचारिकता पूरी करके खाना खजाना का कार्यक्रम साढ़े बारह बजे खत्म हुआ. हमलोग घर पहुँचे डेढ़ बजे. भाई ट्रैक्टर लेकर २०-२५ मिनट बाद पहुँचा. तब तक अम्मा पूजा का अछत, सेनुर और फूल लिए खड़ी रही. ट्रैक्टर आते ही लगभग डेढ़ सेर अछत,१००-२०० ग्राम सेनुर और रात को जितना फूल मिल सकता था उतने फूल से माई ने श्रद्धापूर्वक पूजा किया, मिसरी का परसादी भी बांटा. सब लोग सोने चले गये और अम्मा बैठकर मंगल गाने लगी. चार बजे मेरी नींद खुली तो मैने अम्मा को मंगल गाते ही पाया. उसको रोकना निरर्थक था. मैने भी उसके पास जाकर मुस्कुराते हुए कहा; “गाव अम्मा गाव.”
अगले दिन पापा को मैं पटना ले गया. साले साहब के अस्पताल में आराम से पापा का ऑपरेशन हुआ. ऑपरेशन के बाद पापा की जरुरत का सामान खरीदकर दूसरे दिन शाम तक हम घर वापस आ गये. शाम को गंवई महफिल जमी. चर्चा का विषय हमारा ट्रेक्टर ही था. एक रिश्तेदार ने मुस्कुराते हुए पूछा; “केतना खेत जोताइल हs.” दूसरे ने ताना दिया;”अब तs ट्रैक्टरो से कमाई होई”. जितने मुँह उतनी बातें. मैने सबका मुँह बंद करने को बस इतना कहा;”अरे पापा के इच्छा रहल हs.” काश, मैं उन्हे समझा पाता कि माता-पिता की इच्छा जीते जी ही पूरी की जा सकती है क्योंकि जीवन नश्वर है और इच्छा सांसारिक.
शुक्रवार की सुबह इन्ही तानों के बीच मैं घर से गुड़गांव के लिए निकला. रास्ते भर पूरा घटनाक्रम दिमाग में घूमता रहा. सवाल कौंधता रहा; “केतना खेत जोताइल हs.” तभी अंतर से एक आवाज आयी; “जोतकर नहीं, जीतकर आया हूँ.”
