14 सितम्बर को हिन्दी दिवस मनाया जाता है। तरह-तरह के आयोजन होते है। प्रतियोगितायें भी। नारा प्रतियोगिता, काव्य प्रतियोगिता, टिप्पण लेखन। आदि-इत्यादि। वगैरह-वगैरह। एक्सेट्रा-वेक्सेट्रा! कुछ जगह तो सारा काम हिन्दी में होने लगता है- हिन्दी सप्ताह में। हिन्दी लिख-पढ़ लेने वाले लोग ऐसे मौके पर पंडितजी टाइप हो जाते हैं। उनके हिन्दी मंत्र पढ़े बिना किसी कोई फ़ाइल स्वाहा नहीं होती। काम ठहर जाता है। हिन्दी का जुलूस निकल जाने का इंतजार करती हैं फ़ाइलें। हिन्दी सप्ताह बीते तब वे आगे बढ़ें।
साहब लोग हिन्दी का ककहरा जानने वालों को बुलाकर पूछते हैं- पांडे जी अप्रूव्ड को हिन्दी में क्या लिखते हैं? स्वीकृत या अनुमोदित? ’स’ कौन सा ’पूरा या आधा’ , ’पेट कटा वाला’ या सरौता वाला? काव्य प्रतियोगिताओं में लोग हिन्दी का गुणगान करने लगते हैं। छाती भी पीटते हैं। हिन्दी को माता बताते हैं। एक प्रतियोगिता में दस में से आठ कवियों ने हिन्दी को मां बताया। हमें लगा कि इत्ते बच्चे पैदा किये इसी लिये तो नही दुर्दशा है हिन्दी की?
कुछ जगह कवि सम्मेलन भी कराया जाता है। कवियों की मांग बढ़ जाती है। निठल्ले घूमते तुक्कड़ कवि का भी शेड्यूल बन जाता है। Y2K के समय की बोर्ड पर हाथ धरने वाले अमेरिका चले गये कम्प्यूटर एक्सपर्ट बनकर। हिन्दी दिवस के मौके पर तमाम चुटकुले बाज भी धड़ल्ले से वहां कविता पढ़ आते हैं जहां दीगर दिनो में वे प्रवेश भी न पा सकें।
ऐसे ही हिन्दी दिवस के मौके पर आयोजित एक कवि सम्मेलन के हम गवाह बने। चार-पांच कवि बुलाये गये थे कवि सम्मेलन में। कैंटीन के हाल में मंच सजा। आम दिनों में जिन मेजों पर थालियां सजतीं थी उन पर चद्दर डालकर कवियों को सजा दिया गया। जहां खाने का सामान् सजता था कभी वहां सुनने का सामान विराज रहा था। मेजें सब दिन जात न एक समान सोचती हुयी सी चुप थीं। वैसे भी कवि कहीं भी कविता पढ़ सकता है। अज्ञेय जी ने नदी में खड़े होकर कविता पढ़ डाली।
मेजें उठक-पटक का शिकार थीं। पायों में योजना विभाग की नीतियों की तरह मतभेद था। पायों के मतभेद की शिकार मेज पर जब कोई कवि हिलता तो मेज उनकी विचारधाराओं की तरह हिलने लगती। कवि आमतौर पर विचारधारा से मुक्ति पाकर ही मंच तक पहुंचता है। किसी विचारधारा से बंधकर रहने से गति कम हो जाती है। मंच पर पहुंचा कवि हर तरह की विचारधारा जेब में रखता है। जैसा श्रोता और इनाम बांटने वाला होता है वैसी विचारधारा पेश कर देता है। सब कवि नीरजजी जैसे ईमानदार तो नहीं होते न जो खुलेआम कह सकें कि कविता के अलावा जिन्दगी में उनको जो भी मिला सब नेता जी ने दिया।
हाल में मेजों पर बैठे कवियों के सामने श्रोता जम गये। शिकार और शिकारी आमने-सामने। बंद हाल में कविता पढ़ते हुये कवि के सामने कई चुनौतियां होती हैं। श्रोता शरीफ़ों की तरह बैठें हो तो कवि को भी शरीफ़ बनना पड़ता है। समय का बंधन हो तो कवि असहज हो जाता है। समय बांधकर कवि से कविता पढ़वाना उससे कविता उगलवाने जैसा होता है। कवि को मजा नहीं आता लेकिन क्या करे? कविता पढ़ता है मजबूरी में। मां शारदे को प्रणाम करके। बहरहाल कवितायें शुरु हुईं। सरस्वती वंदना के बाद। कवियों को पता है कि सामने बैठे श्रोता दो घंटे ही बैठेंगे। इसके बाद छुट्टी होते ही इनका कविता प्रेम कपूर की तरह हवा हो जायेगा। पांच बजते ही स्कूल की घंटी बजते ही बस्ता लेकर भाग जाने वाले बच्चों की तरह फ़ूट लेंगे। इसलिये हर कवि पहले पढ़ लेना चाहता है। कोई कोई ज्यादा समझदार कवि तो संचालक से कह भी देता है- भाईसाहब मुझे पहले पढ़वा दीजियेगा। जरा फ़लानी जगह जाना है। लेकिन और ज्यादा समझदार संचालक झांसे में नहीं आता। नंबर के हिसाब से कविता पढ़वाता है।
एक कवि ने शुरुआती वाह-वाही से भावविभोर होकर अपनी लंबी कविता शुरु की- आशीर्वाद चाहूंगा कहकर। बाकी कवि कसमसा गये। मेज जोर से हिली। एक ने दूसरे के कान में कहा- ये तो पन्द्रह मिनट खा जायेगी। दूसरों का भी तो ख्याल रखना चाहिये। कवि कविता पढ़ने में तल्लीन है। समय,श्रोता, साथी कवि किसी का लिहाज नहीं है उसे। मां भारती की गोद में नादान शिशु की तरह अठखेलियां करता करता शिशु हो जैसे। श्रोता वाह-वाह कहते हैं तो दुबारा पढ़ता है भाव विभोर होकर। चुप रहते हैं तो एक बार और दुबारा पढ़ता है यह सोचते हुये कि शायद श्रोता सुन नहीं पाये उसको ।
बाकी के कवि कविता पढ़ते कवि को रकीब की तरह देखते है। उसकी डायरी को सौत की नजर से। मन ही मन वह अपनी कविता भी छांटता है। चुपके से डायरी पलटते हुये सोचता है कि कौन सी कविता पढ़ेगा आज। वैसे ही जैसे अमेरिका किसी देश पर हमला करने के बहाने खोजता है।
कोई-कोई कवि जब देखता है कि श्रोताओं का मन उससे उचट गया तो वो चुटकुले सुनाने लगता है। वैसे आजकल के ज्यादातर कवि अधिकतर तो चुटकुले ही सुनाते हैं। बीच-बीच में कविता ठेल देते हैं। श्रोता चुटकुला समझकर ताली बजा देते हैं तो अगला समझता है- कविता जम गयी।
विदेश घूमकर आये कवि का कवितापाठ थोड़ा लम्बा हो जाता है। वो कविता के पहले, बीच में, किनारे, दायें, बायें अपने विदेश में कविता पाठ के किस्से सुनाना नहीं भूलता। सौ लोगों के खचाखच भरे हाल में काव्यपाठ के संस्मरण सालों सुनाता है। फ़िर मुंह बाये , जम्हुआये श्रोताओं की गफ़लत का फ़ायदा उठाकर अपनी सालों पुरानी कविता को -अभी ताजी, खास इस मौके पर लिखी कविता बताकर झिला देता है।
कोई-कोई कवि किसी बड़े कवि के नाम का रुतबा दिखाता है। दद्दा ने कहा था- कि बेटा तुम और कुछ भी न लिखो तब भी तुम्हारा नाम अमर कवियों में लिखा जायेगा। कुछ कवि अपने दद्दाओं की बात इत्ती सच्ची मानते हैं कि उसके बाद कविता लिखना बंद कर देते हैं। जैसे आखिरी प्रमोशन पाते ही अफ़सर अपनी कलम तोड़ देते हैं। अपनी अमर कविता के बाद कोई और कविता लिखकर वह मां भारती का अपमान नहीं करना चाहता। अमर कविता की रेढ़ पीटता है। जनता का आशीर्वाद मांगता है।
करते-करते पांच बजने को हुये। आखिरी कवि को आवाज दी गयी। बहुत तारीफ़ के साथ। कवि ने घड़ी के साथ श्रोताओं का कसमसाना देख लिया था। लेकिन उसे अपनी अमर कविता पर भरोसा था। आंख मूंदकर भावविभोर होकर कविता पढ़ता रहा कवि। श्रोता खिसकते हुये दरवाजे की तरफ़ बढ़ते गये। कवि को एहसास सा हुआ कि कविता लौट-लौटकर उस तक ही आ रही है। लेकिन वह पढ़ता रहा। छुट्टी का समय होते ही हूटर बजा। सारे सुधी श्रोता कांजी हाउस की दीवार टूटते ही अदबदाकर बाहर भागते जानवरों की तरफ़ फ़ूटने लगे। कवि ने पैसेंजरी लय समेटते हुये राजधानी की स्पीड पकड़कर कविता पूरी की। उसे दद्दा याद आ रहे थे जिन्होंने कहा था- बेटा तुम्हाई जे कबिता अमर कबिता है।
कविता मैदान से पीठ दिखाकर भागते श्रोताओं की तरफ़ स्नेह से निहारते हुये संचालक ने सबको धन्यवाद दिया। कवियों को लिफ़ाफ़ा थमाते हुये वह मन ही मन संकल्प कर रहा था कि अगली बार नास्ता पहले नहीं आखिरी में बंटवायेगा। चाय की जगह कोल्ड ड्रिंक रखेगा।
